What Is the Patriarchy—and Why This Blog Exists

The patriarchy is a global system that privileges male power while limiting women’s access to leadership, autonomy, and safety. It influences everything—our politics, laws, religions, workplaces, and even our relationships. And while its shape may change across cultures and time periods, its impact remains deeply rooted.

This website and blog are dedicated to exploring how the patriarchy operates—and how it is being challenged.

  • Focus on real women, real stories, and real power

My Approach

Each week, I will publish one blog post that explores a different aspect of patriarchy and resistance to it. My focus will be intersectional and global, examining:

1. What the Patriarchy Is

We’ll define it clearly—not just as an abstract idea, but as a lived reality. From historical context to the way it’s embedded in our institutions and cultures, we’ll break it down and name it.

2. Global and Historical Perspectives

Patriarchy is not just a Western concept. We’ll look at how it operates across time and geographic space—from Indigenous women reclaiming ancestral power, to Iranian women pushing back against state control, to African American women leading change in the U.S. and beyond.

3. Laws, Movements, and Current Events

Each blog will explore how patriarchy is either reinforced or dismantled through legislation, court rulings, protests, and social movements happening around the world right now.

4. Power, Image, and Control

From fashion and beauty standards to media narratives and body autonomy, we’ll look at the more subtle—and deeply personal—ways patriarchy shapes identity and behavior.

This Is a Storytelling Space

Patriarchy is held together by stories—about who matters, who leads, and who stays silent. This site is about reclaiming those stories. It’s about truth-telling, resistance, and lifting up the women who’ve always found ways to fight back.

We’ve been told the same story for centuries. It’s time to write a new one.
